The Eisenhower Matrix: urgent vs important
The Eisenhower Matrix helps you decide in under a minute what to work on. Every task is placed along two axes — urgent / not urgent and important / not important — landing in one of four quadrants. The idea is credited to President Eisenhower, who separated the urgent from the important.
The four quadrants
| Urgent | Not urgent | |
|---|---|---|
| Important | I. Do now. Crises, today's deadlines, health. | II. Schedule. Growth, relationships, prevention — the most valuable quadrant. |
| Not important | III. Delegate / clear fast. Some calls, other people's requests. | IV. Drop. Feeds, aimless scrolling, time sinks. |
The key insight is counter-intuitive: what wrecks a schedule isn't quadrant I (the fires) but the shortage of quadrant II. When the important-but-not-urgent never gets scheduled, it piles up and turns into fires.
How to apply it every day
- Quadrant I tasks — into "Today" with a due date.
- Quadrant II tasks — always with a future date, or they never happen.
- Quadrant IV — don't write it down at all.
In Nuvo the matrix builds itself: important-and-urgent gets the date "today" and shows up in "Today"; important-but-not-urgent gets a future date and waits in "Someday" until its time. No separate boards or priority fields — a date in the line is enough.
call the clinic tomorrow before 12 #health /Family — and Nuvo sets the due date "tomorrow", the tag #health and the project /Family for you. It understands tomorrow, on Friday, in 3 days, Oct 15, this evening, someday, every weekday. Only what is due shows up in "Today" — the rest waits quietly in "Someday".No sign-up — you can jot your first task right away. Free forever, with a dark theme and offline mode.
