Moving checklist
A move breaks down into dozens of small things, and the forgotten one always surfaces at the worst moment. Keep a ready-made checklist by stage — from prep a month out to the first days in the new place.
3–4 weeks out
- Set the date and method (yourself / movers / a company).
- Declutter: sell, give away, throw out — fewer things means a cheaper move.
- Get boxes, tape, wrap, markers.
- Notify your landlord / sort out paperwork for the new place.
One week out
- Start packing what you don't use daily; label boxes by room.
- Switch internet, subscriptions and deliveries to the new address.
- Pack a "first-day box": documents, chargers, kettle, a few dishes, toiletries.
Moving day
- Take meter readings at the old place.
- Check nothing's left in closets, on the balcony, in storage.
- Count the boxes at load-out and drop-off.
First days
- Set up the bed and kitchen first.
- Check water, electricity and internet.
- Update your address on documents and deliveries.
